This was a publication in which we were invited to participate as guest speakers. We presented the results of an analysis of the textual “identity” of Askitiki (Asceticism) by Nikos Kazantzakis. The aim of the research was to construct a word co-occurrence/context matrix based on semantic and syntactic analysis of the texts. This context matrix reflected the identity of both the texts and the author. For this purpose, I designed and implemented a Greek language analysis platform. Automated mechanisms for concept recognition and syntactic parsing were employed to verify the grammatical correctness of sentences. A secondary objective was the syntactic identification of words and the extraction of semantic concepts from sentences, leading to the categorization of sentences according to their conceptual meaning. The final objective was to combine all of the above data in order to compute a context matrix that represents each individual text/work and, at the same time, helps determine the identity of the author.
