Biography

Christos Giakoumettis holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science. His doctoral research focused on semantic navigation in large-scale, geo-referenced 3D scenes within virtual worlds, which he completed at the University of Limoges (Université de Limoges), France (2012). He also holds a Master of Research (MRes) in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom (2005), where his postgraduate studies focused on neural network optimization and genetic algorithms. He further holds an Integrated Master’s Degree in Computer and Informatics Engineering from the University of West Attica (2021), as well as a B.Sc. in Informatics from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (2004). His professional interests focus on the development of innovative information systems, services, and applications.

He has more than fifteen years of teaching experience in higher education (2006–2025), delivering both laboratory and tutorial courses. Among other subjects, he has taught courses related to information systems analysis, intelligent systems, and ontologies.

In parallel, he has carried out research in the field of Artificial Intelligence, both during his postgraduate and doctoral studies (MRes and Ph.D.) and during his teaching appointments at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and the University of West Attica. For several years, his research activities included syntactic and semantic analysis and the construction of contextual/co-occurrence tables for the Greek language, using modern techniques for written-text analysis applied to complete works such as the Old Testament and Nikos Kazantzakis’ “Askitiki” (Asceticism), as well as additional texts by other Greek authors.

He has also worked on English language analysis and the development of a neural-network-based text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis engine. The outcomes of his research have been published in international journals and conference proceedings.

His research interests are in knowledge management, natural language processing, intelligent systems, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality.

He has more than fifteen years of professional experience in software development, implementing projects that leverage neural networks and genetic algorithms across a range of programming languages. He has designed and developed numerous web platforms, web services, and websites. Throughout his career, he has served both as an entrepreneur and co-founder of initiatives, alongside his employment as a salaried professional. He has worked as a project manager and as a full-stack developer.

Overall, he is an experienced software engineer, capable of requirements analysis and the delivery of tailored, end-to-end software solutions, either independently or as part of a team.
